In September 1995, H. George Anderson, the president of Luther College, appointed Yvone Kuhlman, , Timothy Peter and me to formulate a proposal for a celebration in 1998 of Weston Noble's fifty years at Luther College. Since I had been editing a local faculty journal for several years, I suggested that we devote the Spring 1998 issue of that journal to a review of Weston's life and career in the context of fifty years of music ensemble history and the development of the music program at Luther College. It seemed an appropriate publication tribute to Weston's role in that history.
