"Heading for Home, " co-authored by Stock and freelance writer Ken Fuson,
is the inspiring story of Stock, a 1985 Luther graduate known nationally
as the coach of the 1991 Norway (Iowa) High School baseball team during
their now famous "final season."
Even more, this book is a story about family, about faith being tested and affirmed, and about the idea that if you never give up, incredible things can happen.
In 1991, Stock was caught up in the small town's conflict between tradition and progress. He accepted the head baseball coach position for one season during Norway High School's final year before it merged with a larger district. Against all odds Stock led the Norway team to a 20th, and final, state championship.
Stock's story was depicted in the 2007 film, "The Final Season." In one of the film's most poignant moments, Stock rallies his team near the end of the difficult season with the question that becomes the movie's core message: "How do you want to be remembered?"
Stock holds the bachelor's degree from Luther and the master's degree from Drake University. He is a teacher, coach, principal, husband, parent and motivational speaker. Stock and Sean Astin, Oscar nominated actor who portrayed Stock in "Then Final Season," were co-speakers at Luther's 2008 Commencement ceremony.
